history of filmBefore we start we need to look into the history of film.
In 1878 the first film was made. This motion photography was created using multiple cameras and then assembling the individual pictures into a motion picture. The movie was made to answer the question. Are all four of a horse’s hooves ever off the ground at the same time when a horse is galloping. The answer is YES and as a result motion photography was born. |

Roundhay Garden Scene (1888)
This film is the earliest surviving motion-picture film, showing actual consecutive action, directed by French inventor Louis Le Prince.
Only 2.11 seconds long. According to the Guinness Book of Records, it is the oldest surviving film in existence. |

Arrival of a Train (1895)
Fast forward a few years. You might be familiar with this famous film.
This 50 second silent film shows a train pulling up to a train station in the French town La Ciotat. It has been said that when this film was first shown the audience was so scared of a life sized train coming towards them they ran to the back of the room screaming. |
In October 1898 the QLD Government Department of Agriculture funded a film project, this project focused on Australian life.
Frederick Wills and his assistant Henry Mobsby produced 30 films using a camera designed by the Lumière brothers called a Lumière. You can watch these films on the National Film and Sound Archive. See button link below: |
